5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an intermediate in the natural synthesis of serotonin from the essential amino acid tryptophan. The enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase adds a hydroxyl group (OH) to tryptophan, forming the 5-HTP intermediate. In the body, 5-HTP is converted to serotonin with the removal of a carboxyl group (COOH) by a second enzyme. 5-HTP is involved in the regulation of endocrine and brain activity responsible for emotion and Restful-Sleep/wake cycles.
In clinical studies, administration of 5-HTP has been reported to improve rapid eye movement (REM) Restful-Sleep duration and promote emotional well-being. The 5-HTP supplied in this supplement is derived from the Griffonia simplicifolia plant.
Each vegetable capsule contains:
5-hydroxytryptophan (Griffonia simplicifolia) ................................ 100 mg
(hypo-allergenic plant fiber added to complete capsule volume requirement)
Non-medicinal ingredients:
Hypo-allergenic plant cellulose, Hydroxy propyl methylcellulose, Purified water.
Recommended Use:
Helps to promote healthy mood balance. Used as a Restful-Restful-Sleep aid.
Recommended Dose:
Adults. Healthy mood balance: Take 1 capsule 3 times daily with meals. Restful-Sleep aid: Take 1–2 capsules daily, 30– 45 minutes before bedtime. Duration of Use: Healthy mood balance: Use for a minimum of 1 week to see beneficial effects. Consult a healthcare practitioner for use beyond one year.
