Doesn’t an afternoon in the sun sound lovely? In addition to making or breaking a summer day, the sun is also an important source of vitamin D. However in Canada, vitamin D from sunlight exposure can only be synthesized in the skin during late spring, summer, and early fall for a limited number of hours each day. Combined with other factors, including age, skin pigmentation, and clothing coverage, there’s no concrete recommendation for getting adequate sun exposure to synthesize vitamin D. And, extended exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can lead to a higher risk of skin cancer. This explains why 1 in 3 Canadians are deficient in the sunshine vitamin. Vitamin D deficiency can show up through symptoms like low immune function, fatigue, muscle weakness, mood imbalance, and weakened bone health in both adults and children. It makes sense why healthcare practitioners often recommend a higher dosage of vitamin D in those winter months when the sun frequently hides its shining face from us!
Helps build strong bones and teeth. Vitamin D plays a key role in regulating calcium levels in the blood, which is an essential nutrient for strong bones and teeth.
Easily absorbed by the body. Because vitamin D3 is considered far more bioavailable and shelf-stable than D2, at Orange Naturals, we choose D3. D3 has also been known to be more effective at raising and maintaining overall vitamin D levels when measured by a blood test.
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means that it’s best absorbed by the body when suspended in a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil base. Our vitamin D3 drops are formulated in a base of organic coconut oil for maximum absorption so you can be sure you’re getting all the vitamin D3 you’ve set out to get.
