Good taste for a hemp protein.
I like to switch it up every now and then, but I'm not a huge fan of the taste of this one -- can't describe except to say slightly bitter-nutty (could just be an acquired taste). I might try mixing it with other things to balance it out... The other thing is the fact that it's sweetened with coconut sugar, and my favourite powders are sugar-free (usually with stevia).
Good to try, and hopefully they'll improve the flavour. Might not get again though.
I recently ordered a selection of plant-based protein powders to try out as I am not longer able to eat soy-based or whey-based powders. Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 50 Chocolate is not overly sweet and it certainly has a nutty/hempy flavour. It is gritty compared to Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70 and has a bit of a funny taste if you're not used to it.
It isn't my favourite protein powder for smoothies because of the off taste and texture but I could definitely picture using it in power balls and/or granola bars.
I will say that it was less expensive than other products out there and it doesn't seem to be full of artificial ingredients.
I was excited when I found this particular brand on the Healthy Planet website because I've tried the regular chocolate hemp protein from Manitoba Harvest. I was expecting it to be more or less the same as far as taste and texture goes, but I found this particular product to be much more gritty and chalky in texture no matter what I tried blending it with, to an almost unbearable extent. I don't really know what makes the difference between the two that I've tried but I definitely prefer the regular over the dark chocolate, which is unfortunately not available here.
It tastes good mixed in with a smoothie but I am not liking the tastes if you just mix it with water or milk.
Likely good in baking but I haven't tried yet!
taste better than vanilla version but has slightly less protein.ok price
I was a little skeptical at first as it has a very distinct, hemp smell to it, but I LOVE this stuff in my smoothies, gives me lots of energy and really helps me post workout to recover, no more sore muscles since I started to use this!
Good product, local producers and excellent source of omegas.
