Extensive research on vitamin D has confirmed its importance in the absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus; also in maintaining a healthy immune, nervous and cardiovascular systems, cognitive function and emotional well-being.
Vitamin D is vital to strong bones, teeth and a healthy immune system. It’s also called the “sunshine vitamin” because it’s produced in your skin in response to sunlight. Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin that can affect as many as 2,000 genes in the body with several important functions. Perhaps the most vital are regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorous from the intestines, and facilitating normal immune system function.
Getting a sufficient amount of this vitamin is important for normal growth and development of bones and teeth, as well as improved resistance against certain diseases. If your body doesn’t get enough vitamin D, you’re at risk of developing bone abnormalities such as osteomalacia (soft bones) or osteoporosis (fragile bones). However, getting enough from sun exposure has become challenging as people cover-up when going outside in the summer or wear sunblock to minimize the harmful effects of excessive sun exposure. Since most food is a poor source of vitamin D, supplementation is not only ideal, but in most cases, absolutely essential.
Recommended Vitamin D3 intake by The Institute of Medicine (IOM):
• children and teens: 600 IU• adults up to age 70: 600 IU• adults over age 70: 800 IU• pregnant or breastfeeding women: 600 IU
New research is showing most people do not consume enough vitamin K2, which helps our body manage where to send that calcium (we want it in the bones, not arteries or soft tissues). Hence this Liquid D3 is the only vitamin D supplement on the Canadian market that contains a small amount of vitamin K2 (as MK-7). Formulation includes Vitamin K2 from MK-7, the only Canadian vitamin K2 free from the synthetic anti-foaming chemical, dimethyl polysiloxane. Higher levels of Vitamin K are strongly associated with better bone mass, heavier bone density, improved bone geometry and overall mineral content because it activates a special protein called osteocalcin that works synergistically with calcium to build healthy bone tissue.

The oil tastes kind of stale and I hope that doesn't say something about the efficacy of this product. I did get this on sale but I hope that's not why it tasted bad. I've used other brands of Vitamin D drops before and never had that problem so it's doubtful I'll buy this brand again.
I really appreciate this liquid-dropper form, and the combination of both Vitamins D3 & K2. Easy to administer & the taste is neutral. Thank-you!
