New evidence shows that Omega-3 fatty acids, such as EPA and DHA, are an even smarter “brain food” than we thought.

02 18 omegaIn addition to their known benefits of supporting cognitive health and brain function, a recent study published in a 2014 issue of Neurology found that a higher omega-3 fatty acid intake may also increase the size of your brain.

Researchers discovered this after measuring the brain volumes of 1,111 postmenopausal women and learning that those women with the highest blood levels of EPA and DHA also had the largest brain volumes.

Although it is too early to confirm, researchers are hopeful that omega-3 fatty acids can offer a dietary way to prevent the decrease in brain size and function that is a natural part of aging.
