Probiotics Help Obesity & Heart Health in Children

There has been a lot of talk about probiotics and how optimal they are for aiding indigestive flora health at any time, but in particular if there is a digestive issue or at specific times such as travel or holiday time. Now there is a new study to support including probiotic as a regular supplement for every member othe family. Personally, I think this is the right direction to go in. Today’s lifestyles, diets, stress levels all undermine healthy choices. Anything to keep the flora in one’s gut in optimal health is a bonus. Please read on for the study as found in The Natural Path Newsletter:

Recent research has suggested a role for probiotics in helping fight obesity in adults. Now a new study has suggested that probiotics can also help children fight obesity while helping heart health.

This study was randomized, but not blinded. It included seventy-seven obese children. All the children were put on a calorie reduced diet and a physical activity program, but only half of them were also put on a probitic/prebiotic supplement. The study lasted for one month.

The kids on the probiotics had significantly more weight loss and decreases in body mass index and measures of body fat. They also had significant reductions in oxidative stress. Their total cholesterol and heart harmful LDL cholesterol went down significantly more than in the group that didn’t get the probiotics.

This study was not blinded, but it offers early evidence that probiotics can help with free radical damage, weight loss and cardiovascular health in children struggling with obesity.

The Need for Probiotics

Probiotics are a group of powerful healthy bacteria that reside throughout our gastrointestinal system. They are essential to the health and vitality of our immune system, proper digestion and the manufacturing of various vitamins. Probiotics are needed for intestinal microbial balance but sometimes this balance can be thrown off, leading to diarrhoea, constipation, candida yeast infections and other health issues. Probiotics can be affected by: the use of antibiotics; gastrointestinal infections; food poisoning and other intestinal disturbances often experienced while traveling. When the ratio of beneficial bacteria increases in the intestine, intestinal conditions are healthier, but when the harmful bacteria increase in the intestine, it leads to harmful conditions such as constipation or diarrhoea.

So What Makes Ultimate Probiotic Stand Out From The Rest?

Ultimate Probiotic contains one of the most research-proven beneficial probiotic species – bifidobacterium – and the main intestinal microflora residing mostly in the colon. Ultimate Probiotic has been proven safe in over 30 years of studies. It is also backed by over 15 years of controlled studies proving its efficacy and is the only probiotic available today to carry the highly proven shelf-stable BB536 strain of bifidobacterium – with NO refrigeration required.
