Bromelain500mg
Derived from pineapple stems, bromelain comprises various proteolytic enzymes classified as cysteine or thiol proteinases. Its longstanding reputation as a digestive aid stems from its ability to digest proteins across a broad pH range. Additionally, experimental models have demonstrated that bromelain can stimulate pancreatic enzyme production and enhance epithelial integrity.
Beyond its role as a digestive enzyme, bromelain has been found to be absorbed in the digestive tract, retaining its enzymatic activity in the bloodstream. Among its diverse enzymatic effects, bromelain exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties by reducing levels of inflammatory signals such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappaB).
Bromelain's anti-inflammatory, fibrinolytic, and analgesic effects contribute to its musculoskeletal benefits. In an open-label trial, bromelain supplementation exhibited a dose-dependent effect, reducing acute knee pain, stiffness, and improving function. In a clinical trial involving mild/moderate knee osteoarthritis, bromelain showed comparable efficacy to standard therapy at four weeks, with continued improvements in pain, stiffness, and function observed at 16 weeks. Bromelain supplementation has also been associated with faster recovery and reduced pain and swelling following various minor traumas.
Benefits
- Provides 500 mg of bromelain from pineapple stems per capsule
- Supports healthy digestion by enhancing the breakdown of dietary proteins
- Provides the clinical dose used in controlled trials for supporting musculoskeletal health
- Bromelain is well-absorbed and retains enzymatic activity, allowing for systematic anti-inflammatory effects
